April 12, 2013 | Volunteers of America’s Family Shelter Children Take Center Stage
Children living at the Volunteers of America Family Shelter will take the stage with Miss Sparks Outstanding Teen Nasya Mancini on April 16. Ms. Mancini has been volunteering at the Family Shelter for several months, offering drama and theater workshops for the children. The children will showcase their new skills at a special performance on April 16, 6:00-6:30 p.m. at Southside Cultural Center, 190 E. Liberty St., Reno. Media is invited to cover the children’s performances.
April 22, 2013 | Rotary Club of Reno Adding Improvements to Rotary Plaza, Former “Tent City” site
For the 2013 Rotarians at Work project, Rotary Club of Reno will work to improve Rotary Plaza completing a two-year commitment. Local Rotarians will plant trees and flowers, construct a shade structure and garden boxes, paint and add other upgrades to the area formerly called “tent city.” Rotary Plaza now serves as a Day Area where local homeless men and women have a safe, protected place to spend the day, with easy access to resources aimed at helping them find a brighter future.

Children living at the Volunteers of America Family Shelter will be learning on a whole new level, thanks to IBM’s Smarter City Team Challenge. The IBM team has graciously donated two IBM KidSmart computers, which they will install February 16.
