The Story of SARAH - Options for Recovery

Sarah not only found the tools she needed to create a new life for herself, but also found the support of a caring community that she so desperately lacked.

Sarah, like many of those we serve, lived a life of drugs and addiction. With no solid foundation or stability, Sarah married young to someone who provided little support and enabled her habit. After giving birth to a pos-tox baby, she was forced to give her son up to CPS while at the same time, dealing with the abandonment of her husband. Feeling absolutely hopeless and alone, Sarah connected with Volunteers of America’s Options for Recovery program where she was able to treat her substance abuse issues and start her life over.

At the program, Sarah not only found the tools she needed to create a new life for herself, but also found the support of a caring community that she so desperately lacked. After completing her treatment program, Sarah was reunited with her son and continued on to VOA’s Mather Community Campus where she was able to take night classes eventually earning her High School Diploma. With newly found hope and determination, Sarah found a job she loves which has helped her provide a new life for her and her son.
