Brightening Birthdays

Help brighten a birthday today!

Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada is bringing the excitement and fun of birthdays and family celebrations to children through its Brightening Birthdays™ initiative. We hold birthday parties – complete with cake and presents – for children and families who have experienced homelessness. Those experiencing unstable housing issues so often miss out on the celebrations most American families experience together, especially birthdays, and Brightening Birthdays helps change that.

Members of our local community help make these celebrations a success by volunteering, donating supplies and making a financial contribution. Each month a group of people or an organization gathers supplies to decorate the shelter, make a craft, play a game, open presents, and eat cake. Any child at the shelter who has a birthday that month gets a few presents, and every child is made to feel special!

* We are accepting only new, unused and unopened toys which are appropriate for children who may not have access to a computer, yard, bathtub, oven or windows/sills of their own. If a gift requires batteries, please include the appropriate type with your gift.
